Using a sumptuous blend of character masks, magic realism, arresting imagery, puppetry and an imaginative soundscape, Pictures of You weaves together a surreal world across the thin line between dreaming and reality, between sanity and insanity. It is a love story that explores the pleasure, pain, mistakes and forgiveness that govern our responses to being in love.
At first sight, Frank and Janet's marriage is the picture of perfection - neat, ordered, and respectable. But underneath lies a deeper truth - one of buried secrets and repressed desires that begin leaking out when Frank starts to dream.
Presented by a conspiracy of clowns, in association with FTH:K, the production is devised and directed by Rob Murray, performed by Liezl de Kock and Dorian Burstein with visual design by Janni Younge, winner of the 2010 Standard Bank Young Artist award for theatre, and sound design by James Webb, winner of the 2008 ABSA L'atelier prize.
“Another peach of a show, also employing a strong visual idiom and non-verbal musings, was Rob Murray’s Pictures of You; this meditation on relationship torpor was a tonic."
